Range Rover Electric: the quietest thing we have driven this year

It costs more than the house you park it beside, and it may still be the bargain of the range.

Rae Holloway, Motoring editorSep 21, 20266 min read

The first thing you notice is nothing at all. At a 70 mph cruise the Range Rover Electric is quieter inside than the V8 it replaces, and quieter than anything else at this price — the double-glazed glass and the rubber-isolated drivetrain do their work without fuss.

The 116 kWh battery is good for a real-world 300 miles at motorway speeds, and the 800-volt architecture means a 10–80% stop takes about 25 minutes where the infrastructure cooperates. Around town it recovers to a crawl of regen that takes some getting used to, then becomes indispensable.

Prices start at £134,000, and the index already carries 41 of them — every one above list. That is the interesting part: on a car this new, the index price tells you what buyers actually pay when stock is thin, and right now the answer is “more than the sticker”.
